Preserving a Pillar of our Community for Generations
Help St. John continue its 133-year history of ministry and fellowship in our community:
Baptisms Festivals
First Communions Athletics
Weddings Friendships
Funerals Music
Catholic Education Prayer
We hope you will contribute to this effort and pray for its success. Each one of us is part of the heartbeat of this exceptional parish, our beloved St. John the Evangelist.
Our History St. John Parish was founded in 1891 with the laying of our cornerstone on Sept. 27, a warm Sunday afternoon. Deer Park and Silverton were then small but growing communities on the outskirts of Cincinnati. St. John was not only the first Catholic church, but also the first church of any kind in the area.
In the decades since, our parish and the archdiocese have grown. St. John is now part of the Crescent Family of parishes, as we join the Beacons of Light process to rejuvenate the Archdiocese.
Soon after St. John was founded, our school was established. It opened with 50 pupils in September 1905. Attendance rose as high as 800 students. The school operated for a century.
The building now houses Leaves of Learning, a home school cooperative.
On Dec. 27, 1967, the Feast of St. John the Evangelist, we dedicated our current church building. This is where we celebrate Mass on Sundays at 10:30 am. Please join us.
Our Appeal Wonderfully, St. John has emerged from the pandemic in a good place. Ministries have re-started. Individuals and committees are ramping up efforts to accomplish our calling: knowing and experiencing Jesus and telling others about him.
During recent years, St. John has paid down its debt. The 1891 Fund will help with that. Donations also will be used to maintain our aging parish plant.
We’ve been careful stewards. We’ve drawn every bit of use from our church AC but may need a new system. Parishioners also spend time and talent fixing our roof. But it needs more work. We watch our costs and combine expenses when we can with other parishes in our Family. This opens greater opportunities for service, lifelong faith formation and fellowship.
We believe that, with your contribution, St. John can be a stronger parish and continue to serve our community.
