St. John the Evangelist Parish was founded in 1891 with the laying of the cornerstone on September 27th, a warm Sunday afternoon.
At the time, Deer Park and Silverton were small but growing communities on the outskirts of Cincinnati. St. John was not only the first Catholic church, but the first church of any kind in the area. The rapid growth in this area gave rise to several other Catholic churches.
St. John School was established in 1905 with fifty students. Attendance rose to over 800 students at its peak. The school building was expanded twice and at one time housed the church, which is the present-day gymnasium and cafeteria. The school building currently houses Leaves of Learning, a homeschool cooperative.
On December 27th, 1967, the Feast of St. John the Evangelist, the dedication of the present church was observed. This church is where St. John continues to celebrate their weekly liturgies.
